Key Swedenborgian Beliefs:

  • God is infinitely loving and at the centre of every life.
  • Truth is love in action. Actions performed out of love are genuine expressions in a physical form of what love means.
  • There is one God whose essence is Divine Love and Wisdom. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all aspects of God just as body, mind, and soul are all aspects of one person.
  • The Bible is the inspired Word of God that provides inspiration and help to lead better and more fulfilling lives. The literal sense of Scripture tells the story of the people of God, and contains a deeper meaning that illumines the journey of the human soul.
  • People are essentially spirits clothed with material bodies. At death, the material body is laid aside and the person continues to live on in the world of spirit choosing a heavenly life or a hellish one, based on the quality of life choices made here.
  • God gives everyone the freedom to choose their beliefs and live their lives accordingly. Salvation is available for people of all religions.
  • The Second Coming has taken place—and in fact still is taking place. It is not an actual physical appearance of the Lord, but rather his return in spirit and truth that is being effected as a present reality.
  • God is infinitely loving and at the center of every life.

By David Moffat on Wed Feb 28 2024

“I believed that stories helped us to ennoble ourselves, to fix what was broken in us, and to help us become the people we dreamed of being. Lies that told a deeper truth.” — Dr. Robert Ford, Westworld Season 1 Stories: Hold our attention Present diverse perspectives Lower our resistance Inspire us to action. “Maybe […]

Don’t animals have souls?

By David Moffat on Mon Feb 19 2024

“Animals don’t have souls. Really? I think this teaching is just so cruel. I’ve known a few animals more inteligente than some people.”  I’ll preface this with … Not a “make or break” issue for me, although I struggled with this as a child. One of the great values of Swednborg’s work, and the New […]

Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

By David Moffat on Thu Feb 08 2024

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3) What’s the problem with being poor? It is a life threatening condition. It’s the uncertainty, the insecurity of it – not knowing where your next meal is coming, nor where you’re going to sleep tonight, not being able to look […]

Reframing Blessings

By David Moffat on Wed Feb 07 2024

Does winning the lottery make life better? Turns out, it does. Most people believe that lottery wins are destructive: Media reports of ruined lottery winners – negativity sells more newspapers. An invented statistic that 70% of winners go bankrupt. Envy: cushions the blow for the rest of us, who haven’t won the lottery. “Blessed” Μακάριοι […]
