Welcome

Checking us out? Welcome! Read on to get a little bit of a feel for what we’re like, how we do things, and what you might want to know before you make contact!

Who is welcome?

All are welcome! Whether you are new to Swedenborg, a Christian of another denomination, or exploring spirituality in general, we can put you in touch with a group or individuals who can meet you where you are in your journey.

Are you a church?

We began as a conventional church, a branch of the New Church in Australia. Over time though, we adapted to the changing needs of visitors and members. We are becoming a community of like-minded but unique individuals who wanted to collaborate and share their journey, based upon their exposure to Emanuel Swedenborg’s theology. Whilst we have a strong Christian feel, we relate to and accept many other religions and spiritualities. You may read more about us here.

What do you mainly focus on?

Some of us are interested in understanding Swedenborg’s commentary on the Bible. Others are more interested in Swedenborg’s take on the spiritual world around us. Yet others are interested in reflecting on our behaviour and feelings, as well as becoming more empathetic individuals in our daily lives. And lastly some like being in a community of those that have read the books.

How do you meet?

Some of our services occur at our premises (See our event calendar for times and locations). Our premises is located at 3/20 Duerdin St, Clayton VIC 3168. We also meet online (on Facebook, Youtube and Zoom) with locals here in Victoria along with our connections inter-state and overseas. We run a regular Sunday service, Bible Study, small-size collaboration groups and social gatherings. At present, we have over 100 individuals in contact with us.

Is there parking available at your premises?

There are six designated car parking spaces in the Duerdin Street complex. We have also been given permission to use the car spaces belonging to UNIT 2 (three facing Unit 2, and the three labelled “SALADMASTER” next to the Unit 3 spaces). PLEASE PARK ONLY IN THESE BAYS – see the photo – OR ON THE STREET.

How do I get in touch or hear more about you?

You may follow or contact us on Facebook or any of the social media links. You may also read and sign up to our newsletters for regular posts, articles and news. Our spiritual leader, David Moffat, would be more than happy to hear from you!

How do I read more about Swedenborg?

A list of introductory and popular books may be found on Swedenborg.org. Many are available for free on PDF. We also hold physical copies at our library should you prefer a hard copy. You may also read more about Swedenborg on our 101 page. There are also some fantastic resources on the web such as the Off The Left Eye channel on Youtube, as well as some more links here.

Will I be required to contribute financially to the group?

We leave it up to the individual, we don’t enforce any such policy on our members and visitors.

Are most members of your group raised in Swedenborg-inspired households?

You will find that a large percentage of our members are ‘first-generation’ Swedenborgians i.e. people who took an interest in Swedenborg after coming across his books by chance or third-party references to him. There also exist within our group many who go back many generations with the New Church. It is not uncommon to find members who are also connected in some way with their ‘birth religions’.
